Serena say this is the only lodge inside the Mara Triangle, and as far as we know that is right. The Triangle is the western third of the reserve, separately managed, with strict off-road rules and a fraction of the vehicle traffic of the eastern side. Staying inside it rather than driving in changes what your mornings look like.

The lodge sits high on a bush-covered hill, so the views run across the savannah to the Mara River. The architecture takes the circular form of a Maasai manyatta and builds contemporary rooms into it — every room gets privacy and a panorama, and some look directly onto the river.

What makes this one different

The rock-enclosed pool and the hippo pool breakfast

The swimming pool is cut into the rock of the hillside with the same view as the restaurant and bar — a genuinely rare thing in the Mara, where most pools face a hedge. And the family breakfast served beside the hippo pool is the sort of thing children remember for thirty years. Ask us to book it when you reserve.

The rooms

Manyatta-inspired rooms arranged for privacy, all with panoramic views.

  • Circular manyatta-inspired architecture
  • Panoramic savannah views from every room
  • Some rooms overlooking the Mara River
  • Rock-enclosed swimming pool
  • Restaurant and bar sharing the hilltop sightlines

Spa, dining and experiences

  • Maisha Spa & Gym — steam shower and the signature Oringa massage
  • Bush dinners under the stars
  • Sundowners on the plains
  • Maasai village visits
  • Family breakfasts beside the hippo pool
  • Game drives in the low-traffic Mara Triangle

When to come

The migration crosses the Mara River between roughly July and October, and the Triangle side gives you crossing access without the eastern-side crowds.

Green season, March to May, brings dramatic skies and the lowest rates. The hilltop position means you are above the mud rather than in it.

Getting there

  • By air — about 45 minutes from Wilson to a Mara Triangle airstrip, then a short transfer.
  • By road — five to six hours from Nairobi via Narok, entering through the Oloololo Gate.
The Triangle is reached over the Mara River bridge, so road access is a little longer than to the eastern lodges. Flying is the better option here if the budget allows.
