Masai Mara Sopa was one of the very first lodges built inside the reserve, and that history shows in a way that matters: the gardens and trees have had decades to mature. Most Mara properties sit in thin, recently planted scrub. This one feels established, and shade is not a small thing at midday on the equator.
It is built high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, so the public areas and pool look out over the reserve rather than into a fence line. Every building follows the traditional African round-house form with a conical roof, strung along the ridge either side of the main block.
Ninety-nine rooms, including twelve suites, four interconnecting rooms and a honeymoon suite, plus a conference room seating seventy. If you are moving a family group, a club or a corporate party, the small boutique camps simply cannot take you — and trying to split a group across two properties ruins the trip. This is where we put larger bookings.

Migration season runs roughly July to October, when the Mara is at its busiest and this side of the reserve fills early.
The mature gardens make the green season more pleasant here than at exposed camps — worth considering if you are travelling March to May for the lower rates.
