Lion Hill is inside the park, up on the ridge the lodge takes its name from. Every room is a chalet with its own private terrace looking out over Lake Nakuru and the park below — not a courtyard, not a car park, the actual view you came for.
Lake Nakuru is compact and fenced, which makes it the most efficient park in Kenya for a short stay. Both black and white rhino, Rothschild giraffe, big cats and over 450 bird species inside a boundary you can cover properly in a day and a half.
Nakuru's gates open at dawn and the queue outside them is real. Staying in the park means you are already past that, on the lake shore when the light is still pink and the rhino are still grazing in the open. Properties in Nakuru town cost less and we book those too — but this is what the premium buys, and it is a defensible one.

Nakuru works year-round. Flamingo numbers rise and fall with the lake's water level and algae rather than the seasons, so nobody can promise you the pink shoreline of the postcards — we will not pretend otherwise.
Rhino, giraffe and cats are reliable in any month. The dry seasons, June to October and January to March, give the best road conditions inside the park.
